Corporate Wrestling and the Chain of Command from Josh Wheeler

Corporate Wrestling and the Chain of Command from Josh Wheeler

From Josh Wheeler:

I am not the most technically gifted writer in the world, but I am very good at getting my thoughts on paper in a manner that basic humans can understand. Late last night while reading a book something hit me. As many people associated with Georgia Wrestling know who I am many outside of Georgia have no clue who I am and that is perfectly fine. I never set out to be a household name but I wanted to do something more. I think I accomplished most of that but again that is the past, this is today and this is the thought I had.

WWE is the entire WRESTLING corporation. Every wrestling promotion, every wrestler, every fan is just a dollar amount that is used to keep wrestling in the dark and in turn continue branding Sports-Entertainment.

Now most of you are already confused so let me kind of set this out for you. Most of America works for a corporation or has worked for one. A corporation is a brand and company that to an extent has a very large portion of the market that they are in. WWE is perhaps the only true monopoly in the entire American capitalist system, and before you start saying what about TNA, what about ROH, what about the INDYs that is what this is all about.

As many fans in the southeast have heard on He's Got a Gun, Murder One and I talk of the Wrestling Illuminati and we aren't joking when we discuss this. We truly believe that everything is tied to Vince and his suits. RoH and TNA are rather large regional promotions. I understand you want to think of them as National but well they aren't large enough to be national or international they are just an arm of the WWE machine. What TNA and RoH do is they are similar to the Triple A baseball affiliate. Following these 2 promotions is very similar to watching college football or minor league baseball. Sure they make money but they aren't the brand leader and they never will be the brand leader. When you think Football your brain operates a lot like Google and it says NFL. When someone hears wrestling they instantly say WWE, and things won't change without 1 word INNOVATION.

Right now the entire wrestling world from small “indy” show, to the district, regional, national shows all do exactly what Vince does to some extent. How many shows have LADDER matches, RUMBLE matches, all Cage shows, or Bad Guy Commissioners, Gms, Presidents etc etc? How many shows open with IN RING DIALOGUE? How many shows have dance offs, divas, and FAMILY FUN. WWE has set the bar and every person involved in wrestling accepts that bar because they are afraid of INNOVATION.

Why are people afraid to innovate, because people are afraid of failure! What WWE does is successful so people will follow the leader and just fit in. Nobody really gets over and then WWE can take the guy that goes from the small show to the district show to the regional show to the national show change the guys name and WWE's Worldwide audience knows no different.

Do you want to stand out or fit in? In corporate America it's always better to wear a white collar and a basic suit and just do what is expected.

Josh Wheeler is a former promoter, broadcaster, and all around annoyance in the Georgia wrestling scene. It all started in the summer of 2002 and his absolute insufferable idea that the status quo sucks continues as he produces and co-hosts the Podcast "HE's GOT A GUN" with his good friend and wrestling mentor Murder One. He's Got a Gun broadcasts live on Blogtalkradio.com every Monday at 8pm. Outside of wrestling he watches baseball and wishes that others would appreciate the simplicity of humankind.
