Event Preview 8/17/13

The Illuminati is no more! In just a little more than eight days, the Illuminati went from pulling off one of the biggest surprises in Empire history to complete extinction. On August 10th at the Gypsy Joe Benefit, The Devil’s Rejects won the only match in the war that mattered, the final one. After months of misdirection and calculated maneuvers, in the end it came down to who wanted more. The Devil’s Rejects fought outmanned 3 on 4 and still found a way to emerge victorious. Not only was this the end to The Illuminati, but apparently it was the end for Brother Fusion as well. Johnny Viper and “The Deadly Sin” Se7en destroyed Brandon & Jason Collins after the match had ended last week. As of this press release, there is no timetable for Brother Fusion’s return to the Empire Arena. So the big question is “what now?”

The Illuminati and The Devil’s Rejects have collectively run the Empire for almost 2 years now. With The Illuminati gone, one would expect The Devil’s Rejects to continue their reign. This, however, is not the same Devil’s Rejects. These Rejects have bonded with the Empire faithful. They enjoy “throwing the horns up” along with their legions of fans. No, the Empire has sailed into unchartered waters. Although the Empire’s following has never been stronger and the roster has never been deeper, an uncertainty feels the air. While the Rejects have emerged from there conflict victorious, they are weary from battle. The opportunity for someone or some group to step to the forefront is now.

With CRAZY FROM THE HEAT 2013 in the books, it is time to look forward. First thing is first, and the Empire needs a #1 contender for the heavyweight title. “The Strong Style Psycho” Tank will have plenty of time to rest and scout his next opponent. Beginning this week August 17th Empire launches a single elimination tournament to name the new #1 contender. First round matches will be drawn at random, and there are some big names in this tourney. Both members of Team Temptation, Matt Fortune and Shaun Tempers will take their shots at becoming the #1 contender along with Ace Rockwell, Jason Hampton, and none other than Johnny Viper. The early favorite though has to be “The Butcher” Bobby Hayes. His experience and ferocity are unmatched, couple that with his unblemished Empire record and Bobby Hayes could be the man staring down Tank the next time the Empire Heavyweight Title is on the line.

As stated before, the first round will be drawn at random so none of these men can prepare for their opponent this week. Who wrestles who? Who will get the favorable draw? These questions will be answered this Saturday night August 17th at 22 Austin Avenue in Rossville, GA. $5 gets you through the door at the Empire Arena, and once you’re inside ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

Kurt Kilgore and Tyson Dean handled DVD commentary duties with Adam Vance for the 8-10-2013 show.

Kurt Kilgore was absent last show do to filming a pilot for a drama/action show revolving around hitman. A&E is one of the rumored networks interested in the project. Besides wrestling, Kilgore is also a full-time actor within the Atlanta film community.

During the 8-10-2013 show a masked fan had to be ejected during the Adorable Anthony Andrews vs. the Patriot match. The fan was screaming obscenities at the Patriot, and then he started to charge the ring sending fans with kids into a panic. Security managed to intervene and escort the fan to his car. Unfortunately for NWA- Atlanta; the crazed masked fan had parked his car on the front row of the building, and do to the extreme temperatures NWA- Atlanta had the bay doors open to the building. The crazed fan started honking his horn continuously and flashing his lights, taking away from the show inside. The police was called, but showed up after the crazed fan had left.

NWA-Atlanta would like to publicly apologize to all of its fans. Usually this type of behavior would not even be mentioned in a report or news post, but we felt the need to show how not to act at a wrestling show, especially from a supposed indy wrestling veteran. In this case the person bought a ticket to the show, thus they were attending as a fan. Now for the facts; this masked fan, with a mask very similar to the patriot’s, while screaming vulgar cuss words around several children was initially cut off going towards the ring by a 115lb women. He obviously had no intent of actually getting into the ring. He did not act irate until 4 security guards got between him and the ring. He then started to back pedal with security, when certain people (wrestlers not booked, but there) ran from the back towards the commotion. The fan, as he will be referred to, immediately calmed down when approached by other wrestlers and calmly walked to his car. A few minutes later, as you have read above, he was able to get in one last act of defiance from inside of his locked car before peeling away.

NWA-Atlanta would like to publicly thank the fans and staff for handling the situation in a professional manner.

In the main event, we have newly crowned SPW Champion "Dirty" Dave Tate V.I.P. member (violence in progress) defending his title against now bitter rival and current Southern Rebellion member "Da" Hick, both men now fighting as single competitors with all the glory and gold on the line, with so much at stake and dissention in the locker room there is no telling what will happen or the long term effects that could result for SPW as the wrestler loyal to the new company "Dirty" Dave Tate is pitted against "Da" Hick who is a member of the "Southern Rebellion" a faction intent on overthrowing the new GM and the alliance called V.I.P. (violence in progress) of Johnny Romano, Dab Savage, "Big Daddy" Osborne, "Bam" Stone and "Dirty" Dave Tate. Could the V.I.P. end before they ever get started as a threat, or will the "Southern Revolt" win out and put in their own style of Deep South Wrestling. Everything from the Championship to the very future of SPW could hang on this one single match.

In the co-main event we bring in "The Black Superman" AJ Steele, another big man in the wrestling ring, able to take on anyone in the wrestling world, faster than a thrown water bottle, able to leap small children, strong enough to bend steel bars on someone's head and known thru out the southern wrestling circuit to take on another new member of the SPW family "Stalker", some say he's the walking dead others say he's just a man who feels no pain, others just run, the only thing to safely say about STALKER is there is something not right, so keep the kids close as violence lets loose because this is the one you want to watch like a car wreck on the side of the road, just be glad you're not in the ring.

Once again we have charismatic local superstar J-Rod reach for the SPW Legacy Title and take on another terror of the wrestling ring in Logan Creed, big, strong, ruthless, with a mean streak that borderlines sadistic and a belief that the wrestling ring is his personal playground where he can inflict pain and get paid for it. Will J-Rod's luck hold out as he continues to rise through everything that is thrown at him in his quest to become the biggest star in the southern circuit and the SPW Legacy Champion? Or will the punishment that he took at the hands of the monster Big Bam Stone couple with the terror released upon him take its toll and end his quest, and possibly his career?

The Widow maker and Shaun-O Evans take their rivalry to the next level in a last man standing match. With questions surrounding the outcome of the two out of three falls match when these two met last still unanswered, we could see an escalation of violence and intensity as never seen before to bring an end to the question of who is the better wrestler. The Sadistic One will no doubt do everything legal and maybe some things illegal to pull out the "W".
